As Census Workers Depart, Benefit Claims Rise

In the payroll chart below, courtesy of the US Census, notice how the number of workers declines from 195,656 to 164,157 – a total of 31,499.  Correspondingly, today the Department of Labor released unemployment benefit claims statistics that shows a rise in claims of 454,000 as of July 3rd to 479,000 July 31 – a rise of 25,000 – indicating a majority of former census workers are filing claims.

As the number of former census workers rises, so does unemployment benefits.
