Illinois Senate Race Tied

The race to the President’s former Senate seat in Illinois between Democrat Alexi Giannoulias and Republican Mark Kirk is in a dead heat at 34%. The 600 person poll released from the Chicago Tribune also resulted with 22% of the electorate as undecided and the remaining 10% for two other third-party candidates. In regards to the finances of each candidate, Kirk leads Giannoulias in each of the categories of campaign finances, including a decisive lead in cash-on-hand, as the chart below shows. Kirk is a 5-term member of the House, whereas Giannoulias is currently serving his 1st term as the state treasurer.

Kirk will likely be able to outspend Giannoulias because of the difference in cash-on-hand.
