The most recent poll for the gubernatorial race in Florida shows Democrat Alex Sink slightly ahead of Republican Rick Scott 44% to 42%. Despite this small difference in the polls, there is a significant difference between the candidates in campaign finances, according to the Florida Division of Elections. While Scott has spent $39,243,052.51, of which 98% is his own money, Sink has only spent $1,491,673.89 or over 25x’s less than what Scott has spent. Additionally, Scott has received funds from 2,007 contributors, whereas Sink has received funds from over 26,500 contributors or 13x’s more than Scott, as the chart below shows.
The Sunshine State News poll referenced above interviewed 1,016 Floridians and has a margin of error of ±3.07%.
