After posting $500,000 and being held in Iran since August of 2009, American hiker Sarah Shourd has been released from Iran. Shourd and two other Americans, Shane Bauer and Joshua Fattal, were hiking along the Iraq-Iran border last Summer when Iranian authorities arrested the group and accused them of espionage. Bauer and Fattal were not released alongside Shourd. Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad promised last week that Shourd would be released due to health reasons, including a lump in her breast. Iranian authorities have said the remaining hikers will remain in Iran for at least two more months until they go to trial for espionage charges.
