The former Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiorina is now trailing the Democratic incumbent Barbara Boxer in California’s Senate race. A SurveyUSA poll shows Boxer ahead 49% to 43%, while a separate USC/LA Times poll similarly shows Boxer ahead 51% to 43%. At the beginning of September, Fiorina was ahead 48% to 46%. Left and Right News noted in a previous analysis that Boxer was indeed trailing, but at the same time Boxer had a significant financial advantage with over 10x’s more in cash-on-hand. Despite this advantage, Fiorina gave her campaign over $5.5 million in route to her primary victory and is willing to spend her own fortune, which is also exemplified with Fiorina leading the 2010 contributors to a 527 organization. With the direction of these new surveys, it will be interesting to see how the Fiorina campaign reacts, but one thing can be certain – expect her to rock the boat.
