Republican candidate Rick Scott has a 2% lead over Democratic candidate Alex Sink in Florida’s gubernatorial race, according to the most recent Sunshine News poll. At the beginning of September, a Sunshine poll conversely showed Sink with a 2% lead over Scott – resulting with a 4% boost for Scott in the past month. Sink, who is Florida’s Chief Financial Officer, has spent $3,305,246 during her campaign, whereas Scott, a billionaire businessman funding most of his campaign, has spent $44,158,298 – over 13x’s more for the Republican. However, among the last 30 days, the margin of spending between the candidates is not as drastic with Sink totaling $1,810,572 and Scott with $4,635,434, according to the Florida Division of Elections. Still, this spending margin visibly favors Scott, as the shift in the most recent poll shows. Scott told CNN in late August there is no limit to how much of his own money he’s willing to spend.
The Sunshine polls referenced above each had over 1,000 participants and a ±3.1% margin of error.
