The sprint to the President’s former Senate seat shows a slight advantage to the Democratic candidate Alex Giannoulias, who has a 1% lead over the Republican candidate Mark Kirk, according to a Rasmussen poll released today. In the 1st week of October, when Rasmussen last surveyed this race, the results showed Kirk with a 4% lead. As a result, Giannoulias has received a 5% boost in the past week. This boost is a likely a result of the confrontational debate between the candidates that aired this past Sunday on Meet the Press. Kirk is a 5-term member of the House, whereas Giannoulias is currently serving his 1st term as the state treasurer. The outcome of this race could determine which party controls the Senate and is 1 of the 10 Senate seats that Democrats could lose in November.
